In partnership with the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival, Michelin hosted its 2nd Annual Junior Challenge Design Contest. Michelin asked students at Beaufort County high schools to produce drawings and an explanation of the idea of what a classic car of the future could look like.Once the entries were received they were judged by a panel at Michelin’s headquarters and a top entry was chosen from each high school.
Scholarships Awarded
School winners were each given a $500 college scholarship and overall winner Lily Tothero received an additional $500. Her work is pictured below. A $1,000 scholarship went the school of the grand prize winning entrant, which was Hilton Head High School. Prizes were sponsored by Driving Young America, the Concours d’Elegance charitable foundation.
Winning Entries Exhibited
The 7 winning entries were unveiled at the 2018 Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival on November 2-4, 2018 and prize money was awarded to each of the winners. The winning work was on display at the Arts Center through January 2019. Pictured below is the entry by Becca Keating and Catherine McLean from Bluffton High School.
