Kevin Locke Native Dance Ensemble                                                                                                      October 16, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. -- $7 ($6 admission + $1 facility fee)

Kevin Locke and his troupe of award-winning Native American dancers share the fascinating heritage of their Plains, Southeastern and Woodlands tribes, recalling ancestral traditions and rituals handed down through the generations. During this performance, students will experience the colorful beauty of the ensemble’s native costumes, and experience dance, flute and vocal songs, and storytelling allowing them to understand and take with them the universality of Native American culture and teachings.

Animalia: Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets                                                                                          December 14, 2007 at 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. -- $7 ($6 admission + $1 facility fee)

Hobey's performances incorporate a variety of puppetry styles including Bunraku, rod, marionettes, "Foamies", and shadow puppetry. Hobey adapts folk tales from various cultures for many of his performances, always adding a special "Golden Rod" twist. He uses his own voice to create characters and sound effects, tell stories, and sing.  Hobey's newest production, "Animalia", explores the magical world of animals with Hobey's "Foamie"s puppets utilizing the entire theater as a stage.

Cirque Odyssey                                                                                                                                 January 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. -- $11 ($10 admission + $1 facility fee)

Experience a world of surreal impossibilities, unbelievable strength and agility and breathtaking beauty when this troupe of gifted artists from the far corners of the world come together to present a stunning exhibition of dance, acrobatics, aerial feats and cirque arts testing the limits of physics and the human body.  This spellbinding stage show features a unique lineup of cutting-edge acts, including hand-to-hand balancing, mind-boggling contortions and synchronized, high-speed tumbling enhanced by dramatic lighting, fast-paced music, exotic costumes and colorful props.

Adande African Dance Company                                                                                                     February 11, 2008 at 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. -- $7 ($6 admission + $1 facility fee)

This authentic group of African drummers and dancers explores elements of history and entertainment combined in a single musical experience. The beat and magic of the African chant and drum envelops the crowd as they are absorbed by this high level of energy and rhythm that is distinctive of this evocative art form.

Marked with enthusiasm and spontaneity, there is an "aura" which characterizes sophistication and discipline in the quality of their sound and movement. ADANDE will fast forward the audience into a new exciting musical world.

Visual Arts: Bernard D’Andrea:  Five Decades of Evolution 2                                                                   November 16, 2007 – January 25, 2008 -- Call for time and date arrangements                                                    $7 ($6 admission + $1 facility fee)

Spanning five decades, Bernard D’Andrea’s career encompasses the history of 20th century illustration as well as the rise of one of the most influential movements of the century, Abstract Expressionism. His illustrations have been published in major national magazines such as Good Housekeeping and The Saturday Evening Post.  In this field trip, students will explore the works of local artist Bernard D’Andrea. The experience will begin in the Walter Greer Gallery with a walking tour of the exhibit of D’Andrea’s works. Students will have an art appreciation exercise and will have the opportunity to see a wide array of styles and methods used by one artist.  Next, students will create their own unique take-home artwork inspired by Abstract Expressionism.

Visual Arts: De Aarts Ob We People                                                                                                         February 4 – 22, 2008 - Call for time and date arrangements                                              $7 ($6 admission + $1 facility fee)

Take part this signature event of the annual Native Islander Gullah Celebration. Students will begin in the Walter Greer gallery with a walking tour of the exhibit learning the Gullah artistic style and what makes their art unique.  Next, students will use this perspective to create their own unique artworks, inspired by the Gullah artists.

*NOTE* Reservations can be made as early as September 4, 2007 however, payment is due IN FULL 4 weeks before the performance date, either by check payable to the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina or by VISA or MasterCard.

One (1) adult will be admitted with every 20 paying students for 1st grade and up. One (1) adult will be admitted with every 10 paying students for PreK-K.  Additional chaperones are welcome and will be charged the student rate.

For the 4 weeks prior to the performance, seats are reserved only when a payment is made and reservations are based on availability.

Study Guide (if available) and pre-performance materials will be mailed within 4 weeks of the performance, or at the time of your payment.

Please notify us in advance if you have students requiring wheelchair seating or other special needs.
